Duke Of Edinburgh Pub Brixton SW9 - Beer Garden, Ale, Pool Table

The Duke Of Edinburgh is a pub tucked away between Brixton and Clapham North.

It boasts one of the biggest beer gardens in south London with plenty of seating and a large bar and BBQ pit.

Inside, there are plenty of comfy sofas, a pool table, Sky Sports and BT Sport and of course a fine range of ale and cask beer on rotation.

We can reserve you a table for your sit-down meal or a larger area for your party.

We’re a short walk from both Brixton and Clapham North undergrounds.

Duke of Edinburgh pub in Brixton gets Grade II listing

Review analysis

With so many local pubs under threat or closing, we very much welcome the news that Historic England has awarded the Duke of Edinburgh public house in Ferndale Road Grade II listing.

Built between the wars in 1936-7, the website lists the following principal reasons for the listing The site has no shortage of details about the pub’s construction and history – here’s another snippet: The new Duke of Edinburgh was completed in 1937, to the designs of A E Sewell (1872-1946), principal architect for the East London-based brewers Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co, founded in c1666.

As designed, the pub had a public bar and interconnecting games room to the south end, entered via Ferndale Road; and a saloon bar and lounge and billiard room, entered from the west, via Bythorn Street.

To the rear The Duke of Edinburgh has an extensive garden, accessed via the passage at the north of the building, opening off Bythorn Street.

Further information on the pub and the listing can be found on the Historic England website here.
